The crew returned to Santiago for a safe landing about 10 minutes after departure. A replacement aircraft departed about 2 hours after landing. Incident: British Airways A319 near Amsterdam on Mar 3rd 2011, engine problem By Simon Hradecky, created Thursday, Mar 3rd 2011 19:37Z, last updated Thursday, Mar 3rd 2011 19:37Z A British Airways Airbus A319-100, registration G-EUOH performing flight BA-990 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Berlin Tegel (Germany), was enroute at FL390 about 160nm eastnortheast of London almost above Amsterdam (Netherlands) about 25 minutes into the flight when the crew decided to return to London due to a minor technical issue with the right hand engine (V2522). The aircraft landed safely on Heathrow's runway 09L on both engines about 45 minutes later. A replacement Airbus A319-100 registration G-EUOD reached Berlin with a delay of 3 hours. A passenger reported that the captain announced a small technical defect while returning to London. After landing the captain indicated he received advisory from company maintenance to return to London due to some variable stator vane anomaly received from the engine monitoring via ACARS. The captain recalled that the right hand engine had accelerated slower for takeoff than the left hand engine.
